Sarkozy and Zapatero meet

Terrorism, immigration and energy topped the agenda as President Nicolas Sarkozy hosted the first Franco-Spanish summit since his election last Spring. One focus of the summit is expected to be a new joint anti-terrorist operation, following the murder of two Spanish officers in France by ETA last month.

President Zapatero is in Paris today for the 20th bilateral summit between the two neighbouring countries, and the first since Mr Sarkozy took office last May.

A statement issued by the Spanish government explains that the talks will focus on the fight against domestic and international terrorism, immigration and a planned shared electricity supply network.
